Who am I, and why am I doing this?

My name is Felisha, and my journey to transform elderly care started at home.

Growing up in southern Virginia, I was raised by my incredible grandmother, who instilled in me the values of resilience and independence. Now, living across the country from her, I face the challenge of not being able to provide the companionship she truly needs. At 83, she fiercely values her independence and seeks connection over traditional care—something many families grapple with, especially those who live far from their aging loved ones.

By 2030, all baby boomers will be over 65, creating a massive demand for elder care services projected to reach $225 billion by 2024. Witnessing my grandmother’s struggle sparked my desire to leverage technology to bridge this gap. Over the last decade, I have built a successful career in Operations, where I’ve focused on customer experience and trust and safety, leading teams from the ground up to create trusted, safe, and delightful experiences for high-growth tech companies. This experience has shown me the critical importance of personalized service and meaningful interactions, highlighting a significant gap in the elderly care market—one that prioritizes companionship alongside caregiving.

What excites me about Companion is our unique approach to matching caregivers with seniors. Our swipe-to-match interface simplifies the process, making it convenient and user-friendly for families to find caregivers who align with their loved ones' interests and values. We understand that many families need a solution that is not only safe and transparent but also fosters genuine relationships, enhancing the overall quality of life for seniors.

I’ve spent countless hours listening to families and caregivers, shaping Companion into a platform that provides not just care but community. Research shows that strong social connections can significantly enhance well-being, and I am passionate about making this a reality for older adults.

At Companion, we prioritize transparency and communication. Our detailed care reports give families peace of mind, ensuring they stay informed about their loved ones’ experiences, no matter where they are. This commitment to accountability is at the heart of what we do.

As we face an aging population and the desire for seniors to age in place, I am driven by the mission to empower them—and the families who support them—to live their best lives.

Every time I speak to my grandmother, she reminds me why this matters. We're not just building an app; we're creating a future where aging doesn't mean isolation, where care doesn't feel clinical, and where everyone has a companion. I envision Companion transforming the elder care landscape into a space where meaningful connections thrive.
